Portland JSX Limited (PJX) is an International Business Company based in St. Lucia that started operations in 2015. It is a Special Purpose Vehicle with a very limited and particular function: to give its shareholders access to Portland Caribbean Fund II (PCF II). Portland Caribbean Fund II is a private equity fund that holds a portfolio of equity and/or debt securities in companies across the Caribbean and Latin America. The companies in the fund  established with a growth orientation spanning a range of industries and countries.

Portland Private Equity (PPE) has been an innovative force in the private equity market since 2007. In that time it has provided not just capital to the companies it has invested in, but also a unique mix of entrepreneurial art and science. Successful private equity includes first identifying great companies, then being able to uncover the unique value of those organisations with a clear vision and strong management. Portland Private Equity has provided the strategic guidance that has led to operational improvements, technological optimisation, expansion, and ultimately revenue growth, for firms across the region.

Portland Caribbean Fund II L.P. is a private equity fund which holds a portfolio of equity and/or debt securities of companies located in the Caribbean and Latin America. The Fund is managed by Portland Private Equity II, Limited (PPE II).

PCF II’s investment strategy is to target scalable businesses with credible growth strategies, excellent management, prudent debt, and healthy cash flows and operating margins. The provision of capital, expertise and support results in long-term term growth for these businesses and lasting returns for our investors. PCF II will follow strategy similar to that established by Portland Holdings for its own proprietary portfolio investments in the Caribbean region, which was successfully adopted by the AIC Caribbean Fund (“Fund I”), PCF II’s predecessor private equity fund. While not a sector-focused approach, this fund concentrates on the general service sector, alternative energy/renewables, agribusiness, and communications.

AIC Caribbean Fund (or Fund I) launched in 2007, is coming to a close after a decade, giving Portland’s partners room to give thorough focus to the Portland Caribbean Fund and Portland JSX. Portland Private Equity has anticipated that Fund I will ultimately generate proceeds approaching 3.0x the invested capital. The fund has helped establish marquee companies in the region in areas like telecommunications, renewable energy, and financial services. Its performance has been excellent and it has consistently met its target metrics with respect to distributions and total value.

Of the six companies in the AIC Caribbean Fund (Fund I), four have been realised to date. All four companies have high Multiples and Internal Rates of Return (IRR). Communications company, Columbus Networks had an impressive Multiplier of 5.2x and an Internal Rate of Return (or IRR) of 29.9%, Financial services provider, Advantage General had Multiplier of 2.3% and an Internal Rate of Return (or IRR) of 18%, Construction Firm Moya 1.4% and an Internal Rate of Return (or IRR) of 20.5%, Agribusiness World Food Processing 1.3% and an Internal Rate of Return (or IRR) of 18.6%.
